About doodle grooming

A full groom set up for a curly coat. The coat gets brushed and combed out before any water touches it, because a bath sets a tangle rather than loosening it. Then a warm bath, a complete dry while brushing, and the cut you ask for: a teddy bear face, a puppy cut, or shorter for summer.

Best for

Goldendoodles, labradoodles, bernedoodles, poodles, and any curly mix that mats behind the ears and in the armpits.

What's included

  • Brush and comb-out to the skin before the bath

Doodle Grooming questions

How much does doodle grooming cost?

A doodle full groom starts at $85 to $95 for a dog up to 20 lb, $110 to $130 for 20 to 50 lb, $140 to $160 for 50 to 90 lb, and $180 over that. Heavy matting changes the job, so your groomer tells you before starting.

How often should a doodle be groomed?

Every four to six weeks, without stretching it. Doodle coats do not shed, so they hold on to every loose hair and mat against the skin, and past six weeks the choice is usually a long de-matting session or a shave-down.

What is a teddy bear cut?

A rounded, full muzzle with the ears blended into the cheeks so the head reads as a circle, over a body left around three quarters of an inch to an inch and a half. It is the most requested look on doodles.

Why brush a doodle before the bath?

Water tightens tangles in a curly coat. Brushing and combing it out first, then washing, then drying completely while brushing is what keeps a doodle from coming home with mats starting at the skin.
